Macworld Expo 2011: Smart Technologies' Interactive Whiteboards
One of the most interesting booths at last week's Macworld Expo was that of Smart Technologies, who were showing off their interactive touch surface systems. These aren't necessarily Mac-related, unfortunately -- the equipment Smart sells is just an interface, or rather a series of interfaces designed to work with touch-based software. But Smart has supported the Mac platform for over 15 years, we were told, and the demo units on the floor were running OS X.

Macworld Expo 2011: Smart Technologies Multitouch Demo
The SMART Board 800 series interactive whiteboard supports multiuser writing and common multitouch gestures currently recognized in Microsoft Windows 7 and Mac Snow Leopard operating systems. SMART Notebook collaborative learning software will support certain features, such as freestyle interaction, touch gestures and full object awareness, upon the release of updated software (SMART Notebook 10.7 software), expected by March 2011.

State-of-the-art Ewa Makai school opens to students
It's hard to pick just one thing to get excited about at Ewa Makai Middle School, Hawaii's newest, most energy-efficient and state-of-the-art public school campus.
But on the first day of classes yesterday at Ewa Makai, where some 600 students spent the morning taking guided tours with teachers, Tamara Tsuha gave it a stab.
"It has AC!" the 13-year-old said, practically bouncing in her seat. "And it's all new."
